Jamaican track star Clayton gets degree
The year 2019 could not have been a better year for Rushell
Clayton as she won a bronze medal in the 400m hurdles at the World Championship
and completed her degree, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Library and Information
Studies from the University of the West Indies (UWI).
Clayton stunned the world by claiming a bronze medal in a
personal best of 53.74 seconds in a race which will go down in history as the
fastest 400m ever as American Dalilah Muhammad won in a new World Record of
52.16.
The 27-year-old Clayton made a post on Facebook announcing her
academic achievement with her graduation picture.
“I’m glad I have a pic to show my child and maybe grandchild,”
she posted.
Then she thanked two persons who made it possible. Dalton Myers,
former director of sports at UWI and her coach Okeile Stewart.
“Thank you @daltonsmyers and @okeilestewart You two made this happen”, she
noted.
Clayton became Jamaica’s national 400m champion in July and also
won a bronze medal at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.
