MOCA Regulations affirmed in Senate
Government Senator Matthew Samuda

MOCA Regulations affirmed in Senate

The Senate yesterday (Friday, March 27) affirmed the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) (Code of Conduct & Disciplinary Procedure) Regulations, 2020 tabled by Minister without Portfolio, Senator Matthew Samuda.

The regulations will prescribe a Code of Conduct and provide officers

with the necessary guidelines to further execute their duties. The passage of

these regulations will contribute to the establishment of MOCA as a statutory

law enforcement agency, with operational independence and autonomy.

The Regulations were approved in the House of Representatives by affirmation on Wednesday, March 25, 2020.

The MOCA Act was passed in 2018 and was established as a specialized law enforcement agency responsible for strategic intelligence, investigations, and operations. Since then, the agency has secured some 120 arrests and 75 convictions.

The agency is mandated to target organised crime and corruption and to collate the evidence necessary to prosecute serious crimes.
