COVID-19: Here’s what you need to know today
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The number of confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) infections worldwide surpassed 2.9 million while more than 200,000 people across 193 countries and territories have died.
Roughly 842,307 people have recovered from the virus, as some countries slowly begin to lift lockdowns in an effort to return to normalcy.
— In Jamaica, the number of confirmed cases rose to 305 after 17 samples returned positive for the virus.
— The Trinidad and Tobago government on Saturday extended its public health regulations, which includes the stay at home policy, to May 10.
— The United States on Saturday recorded 2,494 more deaths in 24 hours, according to figures reported by Johns Hopkins University. The country now has an overall death toll of 53,511,
— The Government of China has donated a range of medical products to Cuba to help the Caribbean island in the fight against COVID-19.
— The UK on Saturday recorded 813 more deaths pushing the country death toll past the 20,000 mark.
