KINGSTON, Jamaica — The number of confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) infections worldwide surpassed 4.9 million while 323,370 people across 196 countries and territories have died. Over 1.8 million people have recovered from the virus, as some countries slowly begin to ease restrictions in an effort to return to normalcy.

— Jamaica recorded a second consecutive day of no new COVID-19 cases yesterday, while 14 more patients recovered from the virus. The number of confirmed cased remained at 520 while the number of recoveries climbed to 145.

— The United States on Monday recorded 1536 new coronavirus deaths in 24 hours, marking a second day of decline, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

— In France, French authorities say they observed no signs of increase in the numbers of people infected with the coronavirus 10 days after the country ended its lockdown.

— In England, the leader of Britain’s House of Commons said members of Parliament should return to London to work in person on June 2.

— The United States has so far recorded 91,938, making it the hardest-hit country. Meanwhile, England has recorded 35,341 deaths, Italy 32,169, France 28,022, and Spain 27,778.
