Shaggy impresses on Billboard Live At-Home concert
With many artistes finding new ways to reach their fans, Billboard has capitalised on the trend to help raise funds for Direct Relief.
Shaggy’s 25-minute pre-recorded session, which aired last evening, featured hits from his extensive catalogue to benefit the organisation which provides medical resources to doctors and nurses amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The ‘Boombastic’ singerre-recorded all three songs from the mini concert
— “It Wasn’t Me,” “Banana” and “Angel” – which will
feature on his Hot Sot album reissue to be released on July 10.
Additionally,
four new songs will be added to the album, including “Primavera” with
collaborator Sting.
For his performance, Shaggy began with “Banana” which features
and updates
the 1956 hit by Harry Belafonte “Banana Boat
(Day-O).
The consummate entertainer thrilled TikTok users when he did his version
of the viral dance where someone’s propped sunglasses drops down to their face
when the lyric “stick with it cool drop” comes on.
The
51-year-old shared that the re-issue “is a celebration of Hot Shot, which is the album that really brought thenumbers into the game of dancehall. It’s a diamond-selling album.
“And this was the album that actually shift the culture and moved the needle in dancehall to where the mainstream really started to notice and started to deal with dancehall music as a force to be reckoned with.”
