DHEAPBLU shines his love light
One of the great joys of singer DHEAPBLU’s childhood was punching his favourite singers’ songs from the jukebox. He’s hoping his EP, Love Light , gets similar response in cyberworld.
Produced by Danny Breakenridge for Upstairs Music, the six-song piece is distributed digitally by Zojak World Wide.
“Most a di artistes mi grow up listening was from di jukebox or radio. Wi a talk ’bout Bob Andy, Ken Boothe an’ Slim Smith,” said DHEAPBLU.
Rub A Dub Style and Missing Home are the songs released from Love Light to date. Other tracks include E very Time You Smile and No Love Without Feeling.
“It’s all about melodies an’ clean singing, which is what I learnt as a young singer. Dat’s what people going to hear on dis album,” DHEAPBLU explained.
Raised in Jones Town, Kingston, he has been singing since the late 1960s. He started as an ‘apprentice’ at Clement “Coxson” Dodd’s Studio One alongside Horace Andy, Dennis Brown and Freddie McGregor.
At that time, DHEAPBLU was known as Freddie Brown, his given name. His first song, You’re My Lady, was recorded at Channel One and released in 1975; 16 years later came his debut album, I’m the One Who Loves You.
He switched to DHEAPBLU several years ago to avoid confusion with other artistes also named Freddie Brown.
