Nurse receives Jamaica’s first COVID vaccine
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Health care worker Marcia Thomas-Yettman is the first person in Jamaica to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
Thomas-Yettman, a senior public health nurse, received the jab at a vaccination centre at the Good Samaritan Inn in the Corporate Area.
She is one of several health care and elderly people scheduled to be vaccinated today at the facility.
Former Prime Ministers PJ Patterson and Bruce Golding and former Governor General Sir Kenneth Hall are among the more than 300 persons expected to get the jab at the Good Samaritan Inn today.
Minister of Health Dr Christopher Tufton told OBSERVER ONLINE that 50 vaccination centres opened across the island this morning with approximately 3,000 people expected to be vaccinated today.
“It really is significant that one year exactly to the day after discovering the first COVID-19 case we are now administering the first set of jabs.
“It has been a challenging year between those two dates. There have been many victories, a few defeats and we have learnt a lot,” said Tufton.
