‘Sprint double’ wins
Rusea’s High School (RHS) sprinters Aalliyah Francis and Lavanya Williams scored ‘sprint double’ wins last weekend as the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) qualifications series continued with meets in Kingston.
Competitions were held at a number of venues across the Corporate Area and at GC Foster College in Angels, St Catherine, as organisers rallied to comply with the Government’s dictate to have no more than 100 persons per venue. Sprinters split their time between the National Stadium where the 200m races were held, and Jamaica College, the venue for the 100m races.
A number of venues were added late on Friday after the order came for organisers to reduce the numbers from a maximum of 400 per venue.
Francis won the Class 1 girls’ 100m at Jamaica College, running 12.07 seconds, while Williams took the Class 3 girls’ event in 12.14 seconds.
They then headed to the stadium where Francis then won the 200m in 23.84 (-0.6m/s) and Williams completed her double with 25.08 (-1.4 m/s).
Jordani Woodley, also of Rusea’s, won the Class 1 boys’ 110m hurdles when he ran 13.71 seconds. RHS and Herbert Morrison Technical’s Tavaine Stewart took the Class 4 boys 200m with a time of 25.28 seconds (-0.5m/s).
At GC Foster College, Cornwall College’s Lansford Cunningham won the Class 1 boys’ long jump with 6.71m into a strong head wind of -3.1m/s with his teammate Jordae Wilson taking second place with 6.41m (-2.1).
Petersfield High’s impressive Antonio Watson was second in the Class 1 200m in 21.77 seconds (0.0) and Herbert Morrison Technical’s Deandre Daley was second in the Class 2 race in 21.91 seconds (-2.3).
Alexis James of Petersfield High was second in the Class 2 girls’ 100m hurdles in 14.07 seconds with RHS’ Salieci Myles fourth in Class 1.
Rhodes Hall’s Rhianna Lewis was second in the Class 4 girls’ high jump with 1.45m while Albert Town’s Neon Johnson was third in the Class 3 girls’ 1,500m in 5:02.99.
