Badgyalriri opens her account
Badgyalriri released her maiden tag the second time of asking by winning the “Early” Pick-4 native-bred three-year-old Maiden Special Weight (Division II) 800 metres dash, for a purse of $1 million at Caymanas Park, on Saturday, March 6.
The three-year-old bay filly by Sensational Slam – Save More, owned and trained by Anthony Nunes and ridden by the jockey Richard Reid, got up in time to win the event by three parts of a length, at odds of 4/1 ahead of the 6/5 favourite Diamond In The Sky, ridden by Samantha Fletcher to a winning time of 47.3 for the event.
It was a victory which pleased Nunes.
Nunes disclosed that: “ Badgyalriri is nicely bred and beautifully conformed, but she does not have her head in sync with what we really want her to do. Reid has done a lot with her in the mornings. He rode her in a race for the first time, two-and-a-half weeks ago, and she ran fourth in an 800 metres race and ran very well. She came out of that race and showed a little more improvement and got more confident in herself that she began to realise what was going on around her. Reid has done all the work with her to get Badgyalriri where she is today, so why not let him ride her. And, it is fitting that he rode her to victory. But, it is early days yet to begin to speculate about her future. She’s a nicely bred and beautiful-looking specimen of a horse, but needs time to mature a whole lot more. I cannot tell you how far she will go, but she has the talent to advance further, and once we can get her to display this quality, Badgyalriri may blossom into a nice filly.”
