Jamaica records 419 new COVID cases, 5 more deaths
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica yesterday recorded 419 new cases of COVID-19 and five new virus related deaths, according to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
This pushes the total confirmed cases of the virus since the outbreak in March last year to 29,387 and the total confirmed deaths to 480.
The ministry said the latest deaths include a 64-year-old woman from Manchester, a 56-year-old woman from Kingston and St Andrew and a 61-year-old man from Hanover. A 41-year-old man from Westmoreland and an 84-year-old man from St James, whose deaths were previously reported under investigation, were today confirmed as COVID-related.
Another death was also reported under investigation.
Meanwhile, the ministry said of the new cases reported, 239 are women and 180 are men, with ages ranging from seven months to 98 years.
The parish with the highest number of cases yesterday is Kingston and St Andrew, which had 102 cases, followed by Portland with 86 new infections. The other cases were reported in St Catherine (46), St James (35), St Mary (29), Trelawny (28), Clarendon (28), Manchester (18), Hanover (15), St Ann (12), St Elizabeth (11), Westmoreland (eight), and St Thomas (one)
The ministry also reported 131 more recoveries, pushing the total recoveries to 14,912.
