Tina Karol is a phenomenon
UKRAINE’S Tina Karol is elated about her debut reggae single Phenomenon This, which features Sean Kingston.
“I am so excited. Reggae is very powerful. Whenever I come to Jamaica it’s not only going to be about the music, but to breathe your air, enjoy the atmosphere and being part of your wonderful mood. Ukraine may be far from reggae as the sun is to the moon, but we are getting close to the day when reggae music will be playing in the streets of Ukraine,” Karol, 35, told the Jamaica Observer.
Produced by Lucay Dayz, Phenomenon This is on international reggae album Miungu Ya Muziki. The 19-track set is executive produced by Michael “Beatbopper” Hudgins on the Bentley Records label .
Karol — who is the face of Ukraine Airlines — was born in Orotukan, Ukraine, says she is a fan of reggae music.
“My favourite reggae artiste for years is Bob Marley. He is such a star; his music is huge,” she said.
She describes Ukraine’s music as,”mainly in minor scale, melancholic lyrical song, which describes the difficult fate of our people. Reggae, on the other hand, expresses happiness, it’s vibesy and groovy rhythms”.
Located in eastern Europe, Ukraine is bordered by Russia to the east; Belarus to the north; Poland, Slovakia and Hungary to the west; and Romania, Moldova, Crimea, and the Black Sea to the south. Its population is 44.39 million.
She recalled being introduced to music at age seven during her early schooling when she joined the school choir.
“The teachers noticed that my voice stood out from all the others and advised my parents to take me to music school,” she said.
Tina Karol (given name Tetyana Liberman) boasts several titles, including Most Beautiful Woman in Ukraine (glossy edition Viva, 2009), and Most Beautiful Singer of Ukraine (Organisers of Miss Ukraine Universe, 2009).
She is credited with over 50 songs and some eight albums since her first release in 2006. These include Show Me Her Love (2006) with tracks, including Money Doesn’t Matter and Life Is Not Enough; Nichenka ( Sweet Night, 2006); Polyus Prityazheniya ( Attraction Pole, 2007); Zhyzney ( 9 Lives, 2010); Pomnyu ( Remember, 2014); Intonatsii ( Intonations, 2017), and Nayti Svoikh ( Find Your Own, 2020).
