Incarcerated deejay Shawn Storm to release debut EP this month
Incarcerated dancehall deejay Shawn Storm is expected to release his debut EP, Freedom Street, on March 31.
The entertainer has been in promotion mode for the past two months, promoting a few singles from the 10-track project.
Freedom Street is produced by Kwashawna Records and bears a number of collaborations with artists including Portmore Empire associates Sikka Rymes, Tommy Lee Sparta, affiliate Chronic Law, and other acts like Shatta Wale, Shana Bliss, Wendy Shay, and DChase.
The EP’s title is fitting with Storm’s decade-old cry. The deejay, whose given name is Shawn Campbell, is serving life imprisonment for the 2011 murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams. One of his co-convicts and founder of the Portmore Empire, Vybz Kartel, is also serving a life sentence.

Storm will be eligible for parole after serving 22 and a half years, while Kartel will have to serve 32 and a half years to that end. The men are appealing to the Privy Council in the United Kingdom.
The EP’s cover photo also suits the tone of the project as it bears an old photo of Storm rocking a fitted hat, reflective of the era when he was introduced to dancehall and his camp was a formidable subculture.
Supporters of the artist are counting down to the project’s premiere.
“Waiting long time fuh this,” one user commented.
“Freedom soon mi g who feel it knows it gwaan stay strong mi g.”
