JLP councillor dies after contracting COVID-19
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Councillor for the Fairy Hill Division in Portland Eastern Derron Wood has died.
Reliable sources told OBSERVER ONLINE that Wood had tested positive for COVID-19. He died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the Corporate Area.
He also reportedly received his first dose of the COVID vaccine in recent days.
Woods sought to become the parliamentary representative for Portland Eastern in 2016 but lost when he challenged the late former People’s National Party Member of Parliament for the constituency Dr Lynvale Bloomfield.
He is the second JLP councillor in the parish to have died after contracting COVID-19.
Last October, 61-year-old Councillor for the Fellowship Division Irvin Brown died in the Intensive Care Unit of a medical facility.
