New infrastructural development for Kingston Waterfront
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the downtown Kingston Waterfront will see new infrastructural development soon.
Speaking in Parliament today during his Budget Debate presentation, Holness said the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) will advance the development of the Kingston Harbour Walk.
This, he said, is a comprehensive project that includes both the climate resilience infrastructure and related public space in the form of a 28 km or 17-mile linear park from Ocean Boulevard in downtown Kingston to Port Royal.
“Between the programmes announced by the Minister of Finance supporting the efforts of the KSAMC (Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation) and the efforts of the UDC, we’re seeing signs of regeneration,” the prime minister said, referring to the downtown Kingston area.
He said the project will build on the coastal protection that already exists.
“The development will comprise a combination of scenic vistas and parks, a coastal and roadside promenade providing active and passive spaces for recreation, that would be jogging and cycling, etc, and entertainment purposes.
“Economic activity will also flourish with commercial opportunities all along the walk featuring restaurants and spaces for pop up entertainment bringing enhanced quality of life to the capital city,” the prime minister said.
