STETHS, Manchester to meet in ISSA/Grace Headley Cup cricket final
SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth — Arch rivals Manchester High and St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) are to meet in next week’s final of the all-rural Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/Grace Headley Cup cricket competition after dominating their opponents in two-day semi-final games which ended Thursday.
At Content Gardens in Ocho Rios, Manchester High led by a century (120) from Brian Barnes and an eight-wicket match haul from left arm spinner Jaheem Bartley defeated Tacky High by an innings and four runs.
Scores: Tacky High 117 (Jordan Pinnock 21; Bartley 6-20) and 116 (Pinnock 30; Denzil Lee 4-8, Sanjay Walker 3-42, Bartley 2-42); Manchester High 237 (Barnes 120, Bartley 32; Aan Ennis 6-38).
At the STETHS Sports Complex in Santa Cruz, the game between STETHS and Garvey Maceo High ended in a draw with the former advancing to the final by virtue of first-innings advantage.
Garvey Maceo, resuming on the second morning at 68-8, were dismissed for 73, giving their hosts a first-innings lead of 215. But STETHS opted for batting practice rather than bidding for victory by imposing the follow-on.
Scores: STETHS 288 (Kevon Graham 68, Demar Freeburn 37; Orlando Lawrence 4-72) and 178-5 declared (Sean Roye 59, Marlon Powell 32); Garvey Maceo High 73 (Govasta Edwards 4-21) and 45-2.
The ISSA/Grace Headley Cup final is scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, April 20-22, at the Manchester High School field.
