Carifta Games 2022: Jamaicans advance in 800m
KINGSTON, Jamaica — All four Jamaicans who lined up in the two 800 metre preliminaries on Sunday morning’s third session of the 49th Carifta Games at the National Stadium, advanced safely to Monday’s finals.
Based on the number of entries, just two of the four categories required a first round to decide the finalists.
Andrene Peart at 2:15.79 seconds and Ricaria Campbell with 2:20.06 seconds, were second in their respective heats, to Guyanese runners Attoya Harvey with 2:15.76 seconds and Narissa McPherson with 2:19.89 seconds.
Michelle Smith of the US Virgin Islands ran 2:18.47 seconds while Barbadian Ashlyn Simmons also advanced with 2:20.37 seconds.
J’Voughnn Blake and Adrian Nethersole, the gold and silver medallists from the 1500 metre on Saturday, also made safe progress in the Under-20 boys two lap race.
Nethersole was third in the first heat in 1:55.89 seconds while Blake was also third in his race, slowing down at the end to clock 1:58.31 seconds.
Bermuda’s Nirobi Smith Mills led the qualifying with 1:55.11 seconds, ahead of Guadeloupe’s Allan Lacroix with1:57.92 seconds and Trinidad and Tobago’s Nathan Cumberbatch with 1:55.75 seconds.
