CARIFTA Games: Jamaica win boys’ U-17 and U-20 400m hurdles
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica just missed out on a sweep of the boys’ 400 metre hurdles, copping gold and silver in the Under-17 event and gold in the Under-20 at the 49th Carifta Games at the National Stadium on Sunday.
Princewell Martin continued his rich vein of form with another dominant performance, clocking a new personal best 53:00 seconds in victory in the Under-17 event. Jordan Mowatt ensured the Jamaican quinella as he stopped the clock in 54.40, ahead of Jermahd Huggins (55.57) of St Kitts and Nevis.
Anticipation was high for another one-two finish in the Under-20 event, but, while Camperdown’s Roshawn Clarke stormed to a commanding victory in 50.68 seconds, the other Jamaican Rayon Campbell, unfortunately suffered an injury on the backstretch and fell out of contention.
That allowed Dorian Charles (52.83) of Trinidad and Tobago and Antigua and Barbuda’s Craig Prendergast (55.08) to take silver and bronze respectively.
