Man ordered to pay $300,000 after beating 19-y-o girlfriend
A 23-year-old man accused of viciously beating the mother of his one-year-old child agreed to pay $300,000 in restitution when he appeared before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday.
Jevaughn Fang pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm after the court was told that, on March 16, he punched his 19-year-old girlfriend in the eye, kicked her and then stepped on her head.
When asked by Senior Parish Judge Lori-Ann Cole-Montague why he assaulted the mother of his child on March 16, Fang, who confirmed that he works in a warehouse, simply said, “I didn’t mean to.”
Not pleased with Fang’s response, Cole-Montague asked about his reason for the assault again, but he did not answer. The judge then said, “pull down your mask mek me see who is kicking people pickney like a ball!”
Upon seeing his face, Cole-Montague went on to say, “You need to spend a night in jail.”
The complainant told the court that Fang also threatened to kill her after she reported him to the Trench Town Police Station.
“Miss, him say if me go back a the police station him a go thump me in a me other eye and kill me,” the 19-year-old said, adding that Fang has been “following up with” her since the incident.
After hearing this, the judge asked the complainant if she had told the police about the threat, to which the teen answered “Yes, Miss.”
Turning to Fang, Cole-Montague asked if he is willing to pay $300,000 in restitution, which he agreed to pay.
Fang was remanded in custody until April 21 for sentencing. A fingerprint order was also made.
