Crecendo eyes top
MOBAY-BASED deejay Crecendo believes, for Jamaica music industry to be competitive on the global stage, the major stakeholders should have a shared vision.
“The industry needs to be more competitive, while players need to share valuable information. These include the business side of the music. There must be unity among entertainers, producers, and others for Jamaica to retain the quality and status of reggae music,” he said.
Recently, Shaggy was interviewed on the state of dancehall music on The Breakfast Club, a radio station in New York City.
“We cannot fix something that wasn’t broken… If you ask the average DJ that’s on a global scale: What kind of dancehall will move a party? They’re going to tell you it’s 90s dancehall, and the difference between current dancehall and 90s dancehall is the beat,” he said.
Crecendo’s latest project is Succulent on the DreamX Production label, released December 19, 2021.
“This is my way of telling everyone I am stepping out into the music world, and I am also succulent because I can survive just about anywhere similar to succulent plants,” he said.
“My association with DreamX came through SSG Lyrical, another artiste who is under DreamX production label.”
Crecendo, born Evoy Fairweather, attended Green Pond High in MoBay and graduated in 2017.
“I was always writing about anything which comes to mind and listening to types of music, including dancehall, country and western, and gospel. Unlike many emerging artistes, I actually drove myself to a studio I knew could produce my song to enrich my lyrics. Nobody really took me there. It has been going great since then, and with the right promotion I will be doing more singles,” he added.
