Irwin secure quarter-final spot in St James Under-13 football

MONTEGO BAY, St James — Irwin Primary secured the final quarter-final spot in the St James Football Association Under-13 competition, edging Pinnacle Academy on goal difference for the second place in Zone B, after they played out a 0-0 draw in their game at Corinaldi Avenue on Thursday.

Both teams ended the first round on seven points but Irwin Primary had the better goal-difference of five goals to Pinnacle’s one, to join zone winners Chetwood Primary who beat Buckingham Primary 6-1 to top the group with 10 points.

The other qualifiers for the quarter-finals are Flankers Primary and Granville Primary from Zone A, Barracks Road Primary and Howard Cooke Primary from Zone C and Corinaldi Avenue Primary and Catherine Hall from Zone D.

The quarter-finals will be played on a knock-out format on Monday and Tuesday next week with the winners advancing to the semis set for Friday.

Chetwood Primary led 4-1 at the half-time break as Adrian Malcolm and Aiden Earle also scored for the winners while Damian Hewitt scored for Buckingham Primary.

On Wednesday, Howard Cooke pulled off a mild upset, edging zone winners Barracks Road Primary 1-0 to secure their place head of Green Pond Primary who beat Bickersteth Primary 4-0 to end with seven points, two less than Barracks Road and Howard Cooke.

Omari Paragon-Singh’s first goal of the season, scored in the 32nd minute, was the difference in the game as Barracks Road lost their perfect win record.

Nicholas Wallace scored a brace for Green Pond, one goal in either half while Myles Addison and Kevin Eccleston also scored.

On Tuesday, Corinaldi Avenue completed a perfect first round, thrashing Dumfries Primary 13-0 with Carlando Morris scoring seven times as his team became the only team to win all four first-round games.

Pinnacle Academy scored a come from behind 4-1 win over Buckingham Primary also.
