Mixed bag for McConnell
Fraser McConnell had first- and fourth-place finishes at 2022/23 Nitro Rallycross (NRX) Series held at The Lydden Hill Racing Circuit in England on June 18 and 19.
The fourth-place came in the ‘Group E’ electric supercar class, while his first-place finish was in the finals of the Supercar Class.
In the electric supercar class, he was plagued with mechanical issues in the qualifying rounds and he started at the back of the grid. He, however, managed to secure a fourth-place finish.
McConnell then secured the ‘top step’ result that he had been working towards by winning the finals of the Supercar Class. Throughout the qualifying rounds, Yury Belevski got the better of the Jamaican in all their encounters and started the finals in pole position. McConnell reversed that trend by stamping his authority and winning the finals in an exciting battle that thrilled the fans.
McConnell was happy with his results.
“It is very frustrating when mechanical issues, out of my control, affect the progress throughout the weekend, but that is motorsports. We never gave up because we always knew that we had the ability to win in both classes and through qualifying, I had the pace recording the fastest lap time in the battle bracket and warm-up for both classes. It was very rewarding to put it together in both finals and come out with a fourth- and first-place finishes,” he said.
