Our Angel justified her 4/5 slot in a three-year-old (non-winners of two) by brushing aside riders to reward trainer Robert Pearson with the Super Lei plaque on St Leger Day at Caymanas Park on Saturday, July 2, 2022.

Our Angel is trained by Robert Pearson and was ridden by jockey Reyan Lewis in place of favourite jockey Robert Halledeen. Currently fifth on the local Jockeys Championship chart with 24 wins, Halledeen has now taken up riding duties at the Thistledown racetrack in Ohio, USA.

However, Our Angel, a consistent performing bay filly by Savoy Stop out of the Regent of Merit mare Myangel, responded evenly to the handling of Lewis in her customary fashion and won the event comfortably from the 6/5 favourite Silent Mission, by 3 1/2 lengths, in the hands of the champion jockey Anthony Thomas.

She’s Fantastic a 25/1 shot came in third with the six-time champion Omar Walker in the irons, followed by 25/1 chance, Thirtyonekisses 3 3/4 lengths away to complete the frame in a field of 11 runners.

Having run a creditable second-place finish in the fillies Guineas behind the runaway winner Atomica, and from that performance, Our Angel was expected to produce another telling run as the opposition was not as strong as that faced in the Fillies Guineas.

Therefore, following that performance, trainer Pearson expressed firm confidence going into the race on Saturday by saying: “She ran well in her Guineas effort. Our Angel came out of the Guineas well after which she produced some nice work and I decided to run her in today’s race for fillies only. I used this race as a stepping stone for my jockey as I am relieved as my other jockey has basically migrated. I tried out this jockey (Reyan Lewis0 and he rode a very good race and I am happy with the final result. From here, the immediate challenge is the Oaks, but following that I am undecided. The next move is the Oaks as long as she comes out of this race in good order,” Pearson promised.
