Glenn Mills takes up consultant role for Jamaica’s team in Eugene

EUGENE, Oregon — Renowned sprint coach Glen Mills has consented to lend his considerable experience to the Jamaican team in Eugene, Oregon, if needed, and was named as a consultant to the coaching staff on Tuesday.

Mills, who coached retired sprint great Usain Bolt, is in Eugene with his newest star pupil, Oblique Seville. Mills was not named on the official list that was published just over a week ago, but was added during a team meeting, media liaison officer Dennis Gordon told the Jamaican media after a meeting on Tuesday evening.

The meeting also confirmed the responsibilities of the panel of coaches led by Technical Leader Maurice Wilson.

Bert Cameron will be responsible for the 400m runners and the mixed relay team; Lennox Graham — all hurdles and 4x100m women; Paul Francis — 4x400m women and mixed relays; Julian Robinson— throws; Renaldo Walcott— women’s sprints and women’s 4x100m relays; Marlon Gayle — jumps and 4×400 men; and Gregory Little — male sprints and men’s 4x100m relay.

Meanwhile, Olympic champion Hansle Parchment and World indoor bronze medallist Stephenie Ann McPherson have been named the men’s and women’s team captains, respectively.
