Walk in the park for D Head Cornerstone
D Head Cornerstone, after an encouraging fourth-place finish in the recent Jamaica St Leger Classic, should have no problem putting away rivals in the $1.02-million Terremoto Trophy feature at Caymanas Park today.
Trained by Gary Subrtaie, D Head Cornerstone came from ninth position at the half-mile (800m) to finish 11 ½ lengths behind Triple Crown aspirant Blue Vinyl, Atomica, and Brinks in the 10-furlong (2,000m) on July 2. The winning time for the event was 2:07.3 and D Head Cornerstone came home in 2:09.4.
Bred by Bern Identity out of Perfect Soul mare Soul Of The Heart, D Head Cornerstone has looked well at exercise coming into this trophy race. The bay colt cantered 10 furlongs and strode the last six furlongs (1,200m) in 1:24.2 on Wednesday, July 13, signalling his readiness.
With less to fear here, D Head Cornerstone looked untouchable here and should easily go home as the winner here. Andre’ Martin remains in the saddle.
The three-year-old and upward Restricted Allowance II contest going over 10 furlongs is positioned at the eighth event on the nine-race card with a post time of 4:45 pm. First race is at 12:30 pm.
Rainsville, trained by Hall of Famer Richard Azan, looks the main threat to D Head Cornerstone. The three-year-old grey gelding finished sixth by 16 lengths in the Jamaica St Leger, some 4 ½ lengths behind D Head Cornerstone.
The Casual Trick offspring has also worked well coming into this race, clocking four furlongs on the round course in 49.3 after cantering from the nine-furlong (1,800m) marker on Monday, July 11. With the opposition more manageable, Rainsville should bring the fight to the favourite here.
Also should go home with a slice of the cake is three-year-old bay filly Pelicular, also trained by Azan. Pelicular (Soul Warrior–Milestone) is bred to get a distance of ground as evidence on June 19 when finishing third behind Sunset Silhoutte and Unruly Dude over nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m). Pelicular should make her presence felt to the end.
Roraima, trained by Anthony Nunes and Salute The Deputy, trained by Michael Marlowe, are worthy considerations for the exotics.
