#World Champs: Mowatt, Hyde, Rowe advance to 400m hurdles semis
EUGENE, Oregon- World Championships 400 metres hurdles finalist, Kemar Mowatt, clocked the fastest qualifying time of three Jamaicans to advance to the semi-finals of the event in Eugene, Oregon.
Mowatt, who has a lifetime best of 48.49 seconds, left it late in heat two to finish second in a time of 49.44 seconds. The race was won by Allison Dos Santos of Brazil, who clocked a time of 49.41 seconds.
Meanwhile, Jaheel Hyde, who claimed the national title at the Jamaica Trials in June, graced the track in heat three of the event. He finished third in a time of 50.03 behind Belgium’s Julien Watson (49.83) and the world record holder, Karsten Warholm of Norway, who ran a season’s best of 49.34 seconds to comfortably secure the win.
However, despite finishing sixth in heat four with a time of 49.51 seconds, Shawn Rowe will also contest the semi-finals of the event.
The semi-finals of the men’s 400 metres hurdles is slated for Sunday, July 17 at 8:03pm Jamaica time.
