Reggae Girlz edge Costa Rica to keep Olympic dream alive
MONTERREY, Mexico – Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz grabbed third place at the Concacaf Women’s Championship and kept their Olympic Games dream alive with a 1-0 defeat of Costa Rica in extra-time on Monday.
Kalyssa Vanzanten scored the winner three minutes after being substituted into the game, latching onto a through-ball from Drew Spence to fire home in the 102nd minute.
Having already qualified for the FIFA World Cup, the Reggae Girlz will meet the Concacaf second-placed team, either the United States or Canada, in a playoff in September 2023 for a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The United States and Canada clash for the Concacaf championship in the feature encounter which was scheduled for 9:00 pm.
