Legit Boss makes flying start to her two-year-old career
LEGIT Boss, a two-year-old bay filly by Casual Trick out of Bilingual, had the distinction of winning the first juvenile event of the 2022 season yesterday at Caymanas Park.
That first two-year-old race was the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission | Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (BGLC TOBA)-sponsored Juvenile Stakes at three furlongs.
With nine starters in the line-up, surprisingly it did not take the starting gate crew long to get them in their respective starting stalls. When the gates opened both Legit Boss, trained by Anthony Nunes with Dick Cardenas holding the reins, and Volatility (Tevin Foster), also trained by Nunes, got away from the rest of the pack to establish themselves as the early pacesetters.
Moving on to the main track, Legit Boss, who is the first offspring of Bilingual to race, significantly increased her tempo and in so doing eased away from her stablemate and other rivals. Volatility finished second to make it a one-two result for Nunes, with Thalia (Anthony Thomas) the 4-5 odds-on favourite, occupying the third spot.
“Legit Boss worked well coming into this race, as did Volatility, so there was some optimism in the camp regarding the chances of both horses.
“Then, to finish first and second was quite an achievement which [we who] are at the stables are proud of. It was a good first effort by both horses,” Nunes said in his post-race interview.
The winning time was 35.1 seconds with a split of 23.3 seconds.
