Tapper, Williams through to Women’s 100m Hurdles final at CWG
Olympic Games bronze medallist Megan Tapper and World Championships finalist Danielle Williams both advanced to the finals of the 100m hurdles at the Commonwealth Games after Friday’s semi-finals at Alexander stadium in Birmingham, UK.
Tapper, who just missed making the finals of the World Championships last month in Eugene, Oregon, won her first round heat in 12.68 seconds (2.0m/s), while Williams was second in her race in a wind-aided 12.80 seconds (2.5m/s).
Long jumper Ackelia Smith also advanced to the finals after her wind-aided 6.35m (3.1m/s).
The men’s 4x400m relay team of Karayme Bartley, Anthony Cox, Navasky Anderson and Javon Francis ran 3:05.20 seconds to book their spot in the final.
The team of Tahlia Richardson and Katherine Wynter progressed to the quarterfinals of the women’s doubles in badminton after beating the pair of Prospera Nantuo and Cindy Tornyenyor of Ghana 2-0 in their round of 16 games.
Richardson, however, lost 2-0 in her singles round of 16 games to Australian Wendy Chen.
Samuel Ricketts and Joel Angus lost in the men’s doubles to the Aussie pair of Jack Yu and Tran Hoang Pham.
In the men’s 125Kg freestyle wrestling, Jamaica’s Aaron Johnson advanced to the quarterfinals after beating Bangladesh’s Liton Biswas 11-0.
