Are you the JLP’s spokesman, Mr Higgins?
Dear Editor,
I write in regard to the column entitled ‘Patterson looking back…Hanna looking forward’ written by Garfield Higgins and published on Sunday, August 14.
I am a Jamaican living in the USA, and I found the column to be one of the most biased and off balanced Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) propaganda pieces I have read in a long time.
Is the writer the JLP spokesman for your media outlet?
What struck me was the negative and horrific take on Lisa Hanna’s retirement from representative politics. Could it simply be that as the leader of the once 15-year People’s National Party (PNP) stronghold she realised the PNP in St Ann could do better under someone else’s leadership? Or, the alternative, could it be that she simply wants to do something different?
This article is an example of poor journalism and the political tribalism which has prevented Jamaica’s politics from being respected worldwide, like its music and athletes. Shame on you, Mr Higgins.
As to your statement that, of all the prime ministers since 1944, PJ Patterson is the worst, I challenge you to bring the facts and documentation of every prime minister and say that to Patterson’s face.
How easy it is for those who sit writing on the sidelines to criticise the warriors who have been brave enough to lead countries? Is your pen, tablet, computer, or typewriter wearing down your fingers too much for you to actually take action and actively serve this country? Oh, I forget, they are too busy writing negative words aimed at tearing down the warriors who actually are fighting for our countrymen.
I have never voted in Jamaica; however, I support Jamaica through a non-profit which I fund, and I travel to the island one to three times a year in support of our programmes. I actively build Jamaica in my own small but necessary way.
Furthermore, I am not affiliated with any political party and strive to have a fair and unbiased outlook with the goal being the preservation and prosperity of our people in Jamaica and throughout the African diaspora overall.
Hopefully you will see my perspective and do better.
