Tottenham, Arsenal seek to continue good start to EPL season

Tottenham Hotspurs and Arsenal will be aiming to maintain their unbeaten start to the new campaign when they take on Wolves and Bournemouth, respectively, tomorrow, Saturday, August 20, 2022, in the English Premier League.

Event # 1 – EPL, Tottenham vs Wolves – 6:30 am

Tottenham enter this match on the back of a fiery 2-2 draw with London rivals Chelsea last weekend, and have enjoyed an impressive start to the season, with a 4-1 opening day hammering of Southampton. They were just moments away from losing to Chelsea before Harry Kane scored an injury-time equaliser to secure a point.

Wolves started the season with a 2-1 defeat by Leeds, despite opening the scoring. They were then indebted to their goalkeeper for saving a late penalty as they held on for a goalless draw at home to Fulham last weekend. Wolves’ fans will be worried about their start to the new season as their star striker Raul Jimenez continues to be missing through injury. With their opening day loss followed by a goalless draw last weekend, Wolves are now winless in their last nine Premier League games dating back to last season.

KET STATS

● Tottenham – have lost just one of their last 13 Premier League games (W9 D3), having lost five of eight before this run. Spurs have netted 33 goals in these games, while conceding just eight in return.

● Wolves – are winless in their last nine Premier League games (D3 L6), their longest streak without a top-flight victory since a run of 17 between February 2012 and August 2018.

● Both sides – have lost four of their last seven home league games against Wolves (W2 D1), as many as they had in their first 38 home league meetings with them (W27 D7). Since Wolves were promoted back to the Premier League in 2018, at no time have they won more away league games than they have against Tottenham (3). Indeed, four of their five Premier League victories against Spurs overall have come in London.

The betting tip. Tottenham win.

Event # 2 EPL – Bournemouth vs Arsenal – 11:30 am

The Gunners, Arsenal, will be looking to extend their 100 per cent record in the new campaign to three matches when they travel to Bournemouth. Arsenal have enjoyed a strong start to the new season, scoring six goals in wins over Crystal Palace and Leicester City.

Bournemouth are back in the Premier League and will be aiming to secure their Premier League status for next season. The Cherries, Bournemouth, enjoyed a dream start on their return to top-flight action by beating Aston Villa 2-0 at home, however, they were given a reality check by the defending Premier League champions Manchester City, having been beaten 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium last weekend. With that said, Bournemouth will try to keep things tight defensively and try to avoid another hammering at home, even though Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium is considered one of the toughest places to play for opposing teams, as Aston Villa found out on the opening day.

Arsenal’s new signing from Manchester City, Gabriel Jesus, has made an impressive start to his Arsenal career by scoring at will – he scored a double against Leicester City in Arsenal’s last match and will be hoping to carry on his excellent goalscoring form. The Gunners have had an excellent record against Bournemouth in recent times having won four of their last five meetings.

KEY STATS

● Bournemouth – are unbeaten in 11 home league games (W7 D4), winning the last three without conceding. They’ve not won four in a row at home while keeping a clean sheet each time since April 2010 in League Two.

● Arsenal – are looking to win all of their opening three Premier League games in a campaign for the first time since 2004-2005. The Gunners could also win their first two away league games without conceding a goal for the first time since 1993-1994.

● Both sides – Bournemouth have only won one of their 10 Premier League games against Arsenal (D2 L7), a 2-1 victory in January 2018. Arsenal have won nine of their 12 matches against Bournemouth in all competitions (75 per cent), among teams they’ve faced at least 10 times, they only have a better win ratio against Reading (100 per cent, won 14/14).

The betting tip. Arsenal win.
