St Elizabeth, St Mary to battle for Kingston Wharves U-15 cricket title
Unbeaten St Mary will face St Elizabeth in the final of the 31st Kingston Wharves U-15 Cricket Competition after contrasting results in the semi-final on Tuesday.
The semi-finals between Kingston and St Elizabeth was played at Sabina Park in Kingston, while the Kensington versus St Mary matchup was played at Kensington, also in Kingston.
St Elizabeth defeated Kingston by 104 runs after taking first strike and making 214 for eight off its allotted 50 overs, the innings was underlined by five players getting into double figures and a healthy contribution of 34 extras.
Top scorer was wicketkeeper Odane Binns (49 runs), followed by Davian Mason (40), Adrian Silvera (35 not out), Jhaliel Smith (30 and opener), Kevaun Brown (12). The bulk of the wickets were shared two-a-piece by Goevanni Grey, Captain Kajeev Bathyka and McKanell Palmer.
Kingston put up a fight with several of their players batting for long stretches, but were eventually all out for 90 in 26.5 overs. Only opener Nicoli McKenzie (13) got into double figures, but there was a significant contribution of 42 extras to the total.
Davian Mason got 3-1 run in 1.5 overs, Jhaleil Smith bagged 3-19 in eight overs, while Eckoney Robinson took 2-16 in four overs.
The other semi-final was a low scoring one with overs reduced to 38 due to the inclement weather. St Mary won the toss and invited home team Kensington to bat and they could only muster 93 all out, but not before Captain David Dewar posted 54 off 74 deliveries and Jon Christopher Wright got 14. Rushawn Bell, 4-22 off seven overs and Dijon Taylor 2-14 off six overs were the main wicket-takers.
St Mary laboured to 94 for seven in 23.2 overs to win by three wickets. Tyson Gordon, 38 not out, and Devonte Miller (10) were the only players to get in to double figures. There were 26 extras. Geovanni Golding was the most successful bowler, getting 4-20 in six overs.
The final, meantime, will bowl off at 10:00 am at Sabina Park in Kingston on Thursday.
