#UpNext: Tearah taking the slow route to international recognition
As a high school student, up-and-coming artiste Tearah loved music so much that he joined his school band. Now, he is using his adoration for the art to attain international recognition.
“I was always interested in music from high school because I played in the school band and from that time I was always doing little things like the clash vibes,” Tearah said.
He also revealed that while in high school he played cricket and football, and even represented Jamaica in under-19 and under-15 cricket competitions. Tearah disclosed that it took a small injury to draw him closer to music and pursue the art seriously.
The dancehall/reggae artiste, given name Adrian Morris, said he entered the music industry in 2011 and took a slow-and-steady approach to his craft before releasing his first song called ‘Wiggle’ in 2016.
“There are a lot of trials and errors and additional factors that come with music, and in life, you have to make choices. Me basically choose the slow road and make my talent speak over time, instead of pulling any stunts or doing anything just for shock value,” Tearah said.
“Nowadays music is lone controversy or you have to do something outrageous that has shock value to get attention. But I chose not to go that route, I just stay on the quiet side, do good music and then after a while, although it take longer than most, people ago realise,” the artiste added.
So far he says he has seen where his music career is “picking up” as he has a number of songs waiting to be released and his recognition is also growing. Tearah added that he is enjoying this upward trajectory, and he and his team are proud of what is happening.
“Currently I am getting more recognition with interviews and I have a lot of songs coming out with Digital One Productions and also with Inna Mi House Music. Working with a good team that have the same dream, making good dancehall/reggae music for the people, things are looking good,” he explained.
Tearah also stated that his music has been well received by those who have heard his songs so far. He added that he is always encouraged to keep putting out music as people constantly tell him that he deserves to be on the music scene due to the quality of music that he releases.
He added that the feedback from his fans and the support of his team are what keeps him motivated when things seemed dim over his decade-long music journey.
“I have a good team and a good support system so I have to big up Cooreville Gardens, Franklin Bell Jr and the entire Bell family, Richard Roache from Digital One Productions and the CD Master family sound because they stand beside me and each time I put out music. Even though it is not a lot of people who hearing it yet, everybody agree that I am good at what I am doing and that keeps me inspired and encouraged to keep doing what I am doing,” Tearah said.
He told OBSERVER ONLINE that his hope at the end of his slow-burn career is to be internationally acclaimed. But for now, Tearah’s aim is to keep releasing relatable music describing the realities that people face.
Tearah’s music can be found on YouTube and other music platforms including Apple Music and iTunes, and on social media platform Instagram @official_tearah.
