York, Yallahs roll into semis
MANY-TIME champions York United and Yallahs All Star have joined Seaforth Sports Club (SC) and Bath SC in the semi-finals of the 2022 Serge St Thomas Major League following victories in the final set of preliminary featured matches at Heartease Community Centre on Sunday.
In the curtain-raiser a hat-trick from Captain Tamar Francis helped Yallahs All Star whip Elite SDC FC 8-0, which ignited sparks not only among football-loving fans at home and abroad, but patrons who were all about being out with family on a Sunday afternoon.
Francis got his goals in the 28th, 71st, and 73rd minutes, Orlando Ricketts scored a brace in the 39th and 48th minutes, while the other goals for Yallahs All Star came from Alex Brown (43rd), Owayne Blackburn from the spot in the 80th minute, and Ray Brown in the 88th minute.
In the most-anticipated clash between the perennial champions and all-time achievers in the region, York United came from behind to beat Heartease 3-1 in the second game of the double-header.
It was pandemonium when Heartease took the lead with a beautiful header from Obryan McKenzie, knowing a draw would be enough for his team to advance to the semi-finals.
York United maintained composure while demonstrating the depth and experience to equalise when Robert Stephens scored in the 53rd minute. York United took the lead after Swayne Thomas scored in the 72nd, with Stephens getting his second in the 82nd minute, silencing the vociferous spectators.
On Saturday a hat-trick from Jahavanie Henry carried Bath SC to a 4-1 demolition of White Horses to secure their second semi-final spot. Henry scored in the 15th, 25th and 75th minutes, with Kayeel Remekie scoring in the 30th minute to end any hopes of White Horses making it to the semis. Kenroy Roberts pulled one back in the 90th minute from the penalty spot for White Horses.
