Perfect Brew finding the right mix
Trainer Richard Azan believes that his charge, Perfect Brew, has progressed well and should make his presence felt in the classes above.
This came after Perfect Brew easily brushed aside rivals to win the $1.09-million Royal Dad Trophy for native-bred three-year-olds and four-year-olds (non-winners of four) going nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m).
Bred by Bern Identity out of the Milwaukee Brew mare Moonlight Brew, Perfect Brew won by a an impressive 4¼ lengths in an eye-catching time of 1:55.2 backed with splits 27.3 x 52.3 x 1:17.2 x 1:41.2.
Under Reyan Lewis, Perfect Brew tugged for the lead but was restrained in second place, tracking Sunset Silhoutte (Anthony Thomas) around the clubhouse turn. Entering the main track, Lewis took Perfect Brew off the pace and allowed stablemate Pelicula (Jordan Barret) to take up the running from Sunset Silhoutte down the backstretch.
Sunset Silhoutte would reclaim the lead, approaching the distance with Perfect Brew breathing down her neck. Perfect Brew hit the front full of running at the top of the straight and kept his gallop well in deep stretch to win ahead of Sunset Silhoutte and D Head Cornerstone (Dane Dawkins).
“I thought he ran really well. I thought the performance was really good and so he is training on well now. As a late three-year-old, let’s hope that we can have some fun with him and have more successes,” Azan said.
