Lilliput, Flankers take lead in St James/Sandals Major League
SPOT VALLEY, St James — Lilliput Rovers and Flankers FC have taken over the lead in the St James Football Association Sandals Resorts Major League after scoring wins over Montego Bay Boys Club and Granville United, respectively, on Saturday.
Lilliput and Flankers, who drew 2-2 when they faced each other last week, improve to four points. Cambridge United won their opening game to join Reggae Youths and Heights FC on three points.
Lilliput Rovers’ comfortable 5-0 win over Montego Bay Boys Club gave them the edge on goal-difference.
Mark Williams scored his second goal of the season in the 14th minute to give Lilliput Rovers the lead before Dave Ray Bailey made it 2-0 in the 35th minute and Rog Thompson added a third in the 42nd minute.
Jevel Bernard made it 4-0 in the 53rd minute and Odale Johnson added a fifth goal 20 minutes later.
Flankers FC also got their first win, beating Granville United 3-1 as the former champions lost back-to-back games.
Romario Dent gave Flankers the lead in the 21st minute, but Dennis Ricketts equalised for Granville United in the 36th minute as the teams went to the half-time break locked at 1-1.
Flankers FC scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the second half to take over the game. Denrick Williams restored the lead in the 51st minute and Nigel Dixon added an insurance goal in the 54th minute.
Cambridge FC made a winning start with a 4-2 win over Heights FC whose goals were scored by Jason Lee in a losing effort.
Renaldo Nembhard got Cambridge off to a good start with a goal in the sixth minute, but Lee brought Heights FC back level in the 40th minute.
Romario Lewis restored Cambridge FC’s lead in the 47th minute and they were gifted a third in the 53rd minute when Janoy Lewis conceded an own goal.
Lee completed his brace in the 80th minute to cut the deficit to one goal, but Kenton Lewis scored Cambridge FC’s fourth in the 89th minute to confirm the points.
