When great trees fall
Dear Editor,
When great trees fall we should find their shoots and give them the care and attention they deserve to grow in the image of that from which they sprung.
The Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts is a beneficiary of the immense contribution of Leonie Forbes to the artistic endeavours which mark Jamaica as a veritable cultural mecca.
Indeed, many of our alumni owe a debt of gratitude to their encounters with her in her role as drama tutor. As some of them continue to engage with the college, we are facilitated to be intentional about the ways in which we curate her legacy and memorialise her as one among whom we were privileged to walk.
We encourage all our faculty, staff, and students to strive for the excellence as seen in her body of work.
We embrace her family and friends at this time of coming to terms with her transition as much as we pledge to ensure that our college community celebrates her total being as gracious, generous, dedicated, and disciplined, exemplifying the traits which are central to reigniting us all to greatness.
