Clarendon College, Frome progress to quarter-finals
DRAX HALL, St Ann — Former champions Clarendon College and Frome Technical secured their places in the quarter-finals of the ISSA daCosta Cup football competition on Wednesday after scoring back-to-back wins in Group Three of the round of 16.
Clarendon College came from a goal down to beat York Castle High 2-1 at Drax Hall, while Frome Technical edged Rusea’s High 1-0 as both teams are on six points each and will meet on Saturday to decide the group winners, while York Castle High and Rusea’s High, who were beaten on Wednesday, will contest the Ben Francis KO competition.
Also on Wednesday, Group Four remained wide open after both games ended in draws — Glenmuir High and Manning’s School ended 0-0 in their top-of-the zone clash and are both on four points, while St Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS) and Edwin Allen drew 1-1, their first point in the round.
At Drax Hall, York Castle, who were beaten 2-0 by Frome Technical on Saturday, took the lead in the seventh minute through an own goal, but Clarendon College rallied to lead 2-1 at half-time.
Christopher Hull scored the equaliser in the 26th minute and Devonti Hodges gave the former winners the lead in the 37th minute.
Frome Technical advanced to the quarter-finals with a second-half goal from Stevaughn Spence in their game played at Llandilo Sports Complex in Westmoreland.
It was Frome Technical’s second win over Rusea’s High this season after beating them 3-0 in their first meeting and then drew the other game.
