Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson said that the driver of a Toyota Coaster bus who caused an eight-vehicle collision on Constant Spring Road Tuesday morning has 120 outstanding traffic tickets.
A video circulating on the Internet shows the Coaster slamming into the back of pickup, pushing it into other vehicles.
“Until the tickets issued by the police begin to matter, we will continue having these people doing all kinds of things on our roads. The point of the matter is that he, like so many others who end up in these situations, has multiple outstanding tickets. Once we deal with that we will see order returned to our roads,” Anderson said during his monthly virtual press briefing on Tuesday.
The commissioner said that he has been having discussions about when the amended and much-anticipated Road Traffic Act with proper consequences for breaches will come into effect.
“We have been having some discussions recently about when the new regulations of the road traffic act comes into force and the other challenges that are in the system to get the proper consequences associated with breaches of the [Road] Traffic Act,” he said.
