Boscobel, Gayle clash in Sandals/Costley St Mary T20 Blast
Social Development Commission (SDC) champions Boscobel and Gayle will meet in the Division One feature match of the Sandals and Costley Construction St Mary T20 Blast at Boscobel Oval at 1:30 pm.
In the opening encounter, two unbeaten Division Two teams — Highgate and Mango Valley — do battle at 9:30 am.
The Boscobel versus Gayle encounter will feature some top names in St Mary cricket, with Boscobel boasting the likes of skipper Orlando Lyons and the talented allrounder Tyrone Daley. Gayle will be paced by fast bowler Jermaine Chisholm, who was the leading wicket-taker in the Jamaica Cricket Association All Island league, and strokemaker Antony “Kunte” Walters.
Meanwhile, Days Mountain and Highgate scored impressive wins last Sunday. In the feature Division One match-up of heavyweights, Days Mountain defeated Port Maria by five wickets in a tense match which was reduced to a 12-over affair due to afternoon showers. Batting first, Port Maria sprinted to 125-4, thanks to a captain’s knock of 54 by Ronville Brown.
Bowling for Days Mountain, Renar Ross bagged 2-16, Marlon Williams 1-12 and Delroy Patterson 1-24.
In their turn at the crease, Day’s Mountain’s Lesmond “Swizzle” Lewis smashed 47 not out to lead the victory charge, ably assisted by Marlon Williams, who chipped in with 25 and skipper Samuel McIntosh 14. Bowling for Port Maria Donovan Bartley claimed 2-24, Richard Kelly 1-12 and Darren Royal 1-20.
In the Division Two match-up, Highgate defeated United All Stars by 23 runs under the Duckworth Lewis method in a match interrupted by rain. Highgate rattled up 116-5 off 12 overs batting first, thanks Johnaigne Stanford who spanked 31, Onique Taylor 22 and Chez Lewis 21.
Richard Carey was the top bowler taking 2-7, while Tedain Noyan snared 1-27.
When United All Stars batted they were 50 for 1 after nine overs when the rains came. Shanor Douse with 1-16 bagged the lone wicket.
