Dinthill, Clarendon set to meet in D’Cup quarters
Highly-rated former champions Clarendon College and Dinthill Technical are set to meet in the quarter-final round of the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association daCosta Cup football competition in what some think could be a preview of this season’s final.
The teams topped their respective round-of-16 groups on Saturday and have both been drawn in Group B along with Central High and Edwin Allen High.
Manning’s School, who are last year’s beaten finalists, and former champions Frome Technical are in Group A alongside Manchester High and William Knibb Memorial.
The quarter-finals are set to kick off on Wednesday. The teams are scheduled to play three games in their respective groups with the top two from each group progressing for the semi-finals.
On paper Group A appears to be the more competitive of the two with the teams more evenly matched, given that Dinthill Technical and Clarendon College start as clear favourites in Group B.
Unbeaten Clarendon College are the only team to win all three games in the round of 16, topping Group 3 after beating Frome Technical 3-0 on Saturday. The result ended the Westmoreland-based school’s unbeaten run this season.
Manning’s School, the only other unbeaten team left in the competition, also topped their round-of-16 group, tallying seven points after two wins and a draw.
