Staying perfect
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Reggae Youths FC and Cambridge FC will both be seeking third-consecutive wins this week in the St James Football Association Sandals Resorts International Major League competition.
Both are coming off back-to-back wins earlier this week and will start favourites to extend their winning starts and pass leaders Lilliput Rovers, now at the top of the points standings.
Reggae Youths will meet Flankers FC at the UDC field on Thursday while Cambridge FC takes on winless Montego Bay Boys’ Club at the same venue a day later.
Also on Thursday, Heights FC will hope to rebound from back-to-back losses when they take on Granville FC at the Granville Community Centre.
Lilliput Rovers took over the lead in the points standings on Sunday after a 1-0 win over Heights at Spot Valley High School, while Reggae Youths beat Boys’ Club 4-1 and Cambridge edged Flankers 1-0.
At the UDC field on Sunday, Reggae Youths eased to their second win against an outclassed Montego Bay Boys’ Club as goals from Javan Randall in the 19th minute and Chander-Paul Dehaney in the 25th minute staked them to an early advantage.
Thomas Scott added a third in the 33rd minute as Reggae Youths led 3-0 at half-time.
Ian Francis pulled one back for Boys’ Club when he converted from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute but Oshane Thompson scored his third goal of the season in the 88th minute to restore Reggae Youths’ three goals advantage.
On Monday, Rajay Sinclair’s 67th-minute goal separated Cambridge FC from Flankers FC who were losing for the first time this season.
