Women’s Premier League returns Nov 26
The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) says the National Women’s Premier League will return on November 26.
JFF President Michael Ricketts says that the league will feature 12 teams. But he said that additional details will not be shared until after further meetings have been held with major potential sponsors.
“We want to have a real fanfare,” Ricketts said. “We want to be re-energised as we restart because the fact is we have not had the Women’s Premier League for the last three years, but we are on a path that will certainly lead us to glory. I’ve always said that we, of course meaning the JFF, are intent on getting things right.”
Ricketts said the structure of the league is still being considered.
“The competitions department, they certainly, in very short order, will present to the board of directors and the respective media houses how the competition will be structured,” he said. “But the competitions department is actively engaged in working out the best format, one that will certainly generate a lot of interest.”
JFF Women’s Committee Chairperson Elaine Walker-Brown says that meetings are progressing well.
“We had a meeting on Monday, and we met with the general secretary [Dennis Chung] to plan for a press conference,” she said. “It will be by Friday of next week [November 18]. So, you will get all the information you need and you can ask all the questions that you need to.”
