God of Love cruises away with MBet Summit of Speed Trophy
God of Love, in another fine display of sprinting, easily brushed aside rivals to win the $1.29-million MBet Summit of Speed Trophy feature race at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
Trained by Fitzgerald Richards and ridden by title-chasing jockey Dane Dawkins, God of Love won going away by five lengths in the three-year-old and upward Open Allowance contest over six furlongs (1,200m).
God of Love broke well at the start of the race as the six-year-old bay gelding settled in second place behind the speedy Madelyn’s Sunshine (Omar Walker). God of Love then joined Madelyn’s Sunshine on the headline navigating the half-mile (800m) turn before hitting the front full of running entering the drive.
With a couple of cracks from the whip, God of Love responded well and sprinted clear for a decisive win, his second on the trot. Eagle One, under a vigorous ride from jockey Jerome Innis, finished in second place ahead of Duke (Anthony Thomas), who came home in third place. After splits of 22.4 x 46.3, the final time was recorded at 1:13.2.
Meanwhile, jockeys Reyan Lewis and Robert Halledeen were the pick among the riders, with two winners each on the 10-race programme. Lewis won two of the three co-feature events on the card as he booted home Champion Bubbler for trainer Spencer Chung in the $1.09-million War Zone Sprint Trophy over five-and-a-half furlongs (1,100m) and She’s Fantastic for trainer Dennis Thwaites in the $1.02-million Miracle Cure Sprint, also over five-and-a-half furlongs.
Halledeen was successful aboard Diligent in the first race for trainer Steven Todd and Show Girl for trainer Jason DaCosta in the $1.01-million SunnySide Stakes over five furlongs (1000m) on the round course.
Racing continues today with a nine-race programme featuring the $1.14-million Ahwhofah Sprint going six furlongs.
