Royal Lakes rally for dramatic 3-3 draw with Springers
TUCKER, St James — Royal Lakes scored two late goals to rally from two goals down and earn a 3-3 draw against Springers FC in their Jamaica Women’s Premier League cross-zone game played at Wespow Park in St James on Saturday.
The game kicked off nearly 40 minutes after the scheduled start as the visitors arrived late and were down 2-0 inside the first 10 minutes but rallied to earn a point, denying Springers FC their second win.
Reggae Girlz goalkeeper Chrisann Chambers was the difference for her team as she saved a first-half penalty and had a second good save late in the first half to keep her team in the game.
Fredricka Finnikin scored twice for Springers, while Brianna Crosby also had two for Springers, including the equaliser in time added in the second half.
Amelia Richardson sent Springers into the lead after just four minutes, finishing off a good move by Finnikin, scoring from close range, while Finnikin got her first in the 10th minute when she dribbled into the Royal Lakes box down the right flank, cut in, and beat Chambers from close range.
Royal Lakes pulled one back in the 21st minute when Crosby converted a penalty kick after one of her teammates were fouled in the Springers FC penalty area.
The home team had a chance to retake their two-goal lead, but Chambers pulled off a brilliant save to deny Dannique Wilson from the penalty spot in the 29th minute.
Finnikin completed her brace when she made the scores 3-1 in the 54th minute, but Royal Lakes rallied with goals from Denesha Ellis in the 86th minute before Crosby got her second in the first minute of time added.
