Curlin’s Noon poised for winning debut
While many have identified the top performers from last year’s two-year-old campaign as the main protagonists for the upcoming three-year-old Classic season, a number of unknown prospects continue to come to the fore and a Maiden Special Weight contest on tomorrow’s (Saturday, January 14, 2023) nine-race card at Caymanas Park should provide glimpses of their potential.
Seven runners are down to contest the five-furlong (1,000m) straight event.
Below, The Supreme Racing Guide takes a look at the runners and their chances of winning.
1. TRULY BEGOTTEN SON: (3 bc by Bern Identity – Sexy Moon) – Has shown in his two starts to date that he is of some ability. He placed second on debut over the straight course behind Piggly Wiggly and was only one-and-a-half lengths behind Boasey coming from off the pace in a seven-furlong contest on January 7, 2023. Then, Truly Begotten Son toted top weight of 57.0kg (126lb), but will relish the ease in the scales for this assignment and should again be thereabouts at the finish. Note: blinkers have been fitted on this occasion.
2. CURLIN‘S NOON: (3 bc by Perfect Curlin – Noon It Is) – Nicely bred colt who is out for his debut. Comes in allowing weight all around, but by all indications, should relish this sprint and seems poised to get off the mark right away.
3. ROARING THUNDER: (3 grc by Spieth –Little Thunder) –A no factor in his four starts to date over the middle distances. Trying his hand at a quick dash for the first time and so it is left to be seen how he goes about business. Note: tongue-tie has been refitted for this assignment.
4. SWEET VICTORY: (3 grf by Spieth –Bitter End) – Down the track in her two starts so far. Sweet Victory has been active at exercise for this seasonal bow, and an improved effort seems on the cards for Sweet Victory. Note: Sweet Victory races with the tongue-tie on.
5. SHE’S A MIRAGE: (3 bf by Casual Trick –Full Moon’s Enough) –A late scratch from her intended assignment on November 20 last year due to injury. Showed that she is of some ability in three starts prior, as she was up with the pace against a few of the proverbial big guns. She’s A Mirage has been taken to task at exercise and is seemingly over whatever injury she sustained and could prove competitive. Note: the tongue-tie has been removed.
6. SPEEDIE HARE: (3 bf by Conquest Cherimash –Honeymoon Bay) – Another one who is out for the first time. Though her name suggests that she could be fleet-footed, she will learn from this first experience.
7. TRUE IDENTITY: (3 bf by Bern Identity –Quiet Grandeur) –Showed nothing in two starts so far. Has been active at exercise, but seems better suited to longer distances.
