Reggae Youths face Heights with eye on semi-finals
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Reggae Youths will hope third time is the charm as they seek to qualify for the semi-finals of the St James Football Association Sandals Resorts International Major League when they take on Heights FC in a return-round game at UDC Field today.
Reggae Youths, who led the points table almost from the first day, fell to second place last week after losing their last two games when they only needed a point to qualify for the semi-finals.
Flankers FC are sitting on top of the standing on 23 points and have already secured their place in the semi-finals, one point more than Reggae Youths — 22; Granville United are in third place on goal-difference over Cambridge FC, both on 19 points from 10 games with Lilliput Rovers on 16 points, also from 10 games.
The semi-final spots could be decided this weekend with both Granville United and Cambridge FC playing on Saturday against Montego Bay Boys Club and Lilliput Rovers, respectively.
Today, Reggae Youths need only a point from Heights FC who were beaten 7-0 on Wednesday by Granville United, and despite their recent struggles, should get over the line.
Reggae Youths gave up a first-half lead and lost to a resurgent Cambridge FC but face a Heights FC team that could only find nine players to start on Wednesday in a game that was reduced to 70 minutes after kicking off more than an hour late.
Granville United had things their way for the majority of the game as three players Andre Tate, Odane Snow and Andrew Allen all got doubles while Omaro Robinson got his first goal of the season.
