Sunshine Girls look to rebound against England
Having lost the opening contest of the three-match Vitality Test series to rivals England by more than 20 goals, Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls will be seeking a series-levelling victory when they tackle the hosts at the Copper Box Arena in London on Saturday.
Match time is 9:00 am (Jamaica time).
The third and final match of the series is to take place at the same venue on Sunday.
The Jamaicans, who are ranked fourth in the world, one place below England, were soundly beaten 52-73 in the series opener in Manchester on Wednesday.
However, Sunshine Girls Captain Jhaniele Fowler said the team is over that defeat and is looking to put in a much better showing against the English women.
“We are looking forward to this game as much as we were looking forward to the first game because we know that if we lose, then we lose the series. We are going to ensure that we put it all out on court in this game and same come Sunday,” said Fowler.
“We have not lost any confidence after that defeat because we were the ones who gave that game to them. I know that we could have done much better if we were a lot more consistent in the last half of the game because if we had done that we would not be in this predicament that we have put ourselves in,” Fowler stated.
She said the Sunshine Girls must limit their turnovers and unforced errors in match one which contributed to the heavy defeat.
“We made a lot of errors especially in the last half of the game and those were self-made errors, they were not errors that were inflicted by England,” she said.
“I think that as long as we tidy up the errors that we are making then we should be fine. We are still confident that we have what it takes to bounce back. We also have to be determined, we have to work together and we have to just ensure that we work for each other out there at all times,” Fowler said.
