All daCosta team win on penalty shootout
The Lenworth Hyde-coached All-daCosta team defeated their All-Manning counterparts 3-2 on penalties after battling to an exciting 2-2 draw in normal time at the National Stadium on Saturday.
Jamaica College’s Kevaughn Wilson (21st) and Kingston College’s Dujuan Richards (34th) netted for the All Manning Team, while Clarendon College’s Malachi Douglas (31st) and Marques Reid (51st) responded for the All daCosta team.
With the game ending 2-2 at full time, they went straight to penalties and Douglas, Kaheim Dixon and Okeemo Jones netted for All daCosta as both Christopher Hull and Devonti Hodges missed their kicks.
However, three players missed from the spot for All Manning in Nickoy Gayle, Andre Salmon (STATHS) and Daniel Watson (Tivoli Gardens). JC’s Romaine Blake and St Catherine High’s Nickyle Ellis scored.
It was an even game and a fair result that brought the end of the schoolboy season locally as an All-School team will be off to Florida for two friendly games next week.
The All-Manning team came out in yellow tops and bottoms with black socks, while the All daCosta team sported a nice blend of orange and white.
Coach Daveon Ferguson playing a 4-3-3 formation started with Akeem Bernard (Mona High) in goal and a backline consisting of KC’s Blaine Byam at left back, the JC duo of Xavian Davidson and Romaine Blake along with Rashard Frankson of STATHS.
In midfield, he had Kevaughn Wilson (JC), Nickoy Gayle and Shakeone Satchwell (STATHS) with forwards being Dujuan Richards (KC), Macquan Aldridge (JC) and Zhaine Pinnock (Mona High).
All daCosta’s coach Hyde started playing 3-4-3 with Romeo Daniels (Clarendon College) in goal with a backline structure around Devonti Hodges, Okeemo Jones (Clarendon College) and Central High’s Anrick Gordon.
The midfield consisted of Malachi Douglas, Theon Cupee (Clarendon College), Clayton Peck (Edwin Allen), Roshaun Reynolds (Manchester High) and forwards Yarek Carnegie (Manchester High), Marques Reid (Clarendon College), Devonte Rodney (Manning High).
JC’s Wilson opened the scoring in the 21st minute slotting home after Aldridge and Zhaine Pinnock teed him up for a cool side-foot finish.
Captain Malachi Douglas who minutes earlier saw his shot blocked by goalkeeper Bernard in the 15th minute, made no mistake the second time of asking, rounding Bernard and slotting home in the 31st minute and pulling All daCosta level.
But as expected, Dujuan “Whisper” Richards had to make some noise and pounced on a mistake by a defender, sped past another and fired home in the 34th minute to restore All Manning’s advantage heading into the half-time break.
Marques Reid pulled All daCosta level once more in the 51st minute, firing home after a poor back pass from Davidson.
Substitute Jawan Payne of Haile Selassie High came closest to breaking the deadlock but saw his powerful left foot shot sail through the hands of the goalkeeper and crash onto the crossbar.
