Prendergast leads Ireland to 137-9 against Windies Women at T20 World Cup
CAPE TOWN, South Africa, (AFP) – Orla Prendergast made a hard-hit half-century for Ireland in their Women’s T20 World Cup match against the West Indies at Newlands in Cape Town on Friday.
Prendergast struck six fours and a six in an innings of 61 off 47 balls.
Ireland made 137 for nine after winning the toss and batting in a match between two teams seeking their first win in the tournament.
Prendergast shared a second-wicket partnership of 90 with Gaby Lewis, who made 38.
It was Ireland’s highest total in a T20 World Cup despite the innings falling away after the dismissals of Prendergast and Lewis.
Off-spinner Karishma Ramharack was again the most impressive West Indian bowler, taking two for 18 in her four overs.
