Racing first qualifiers for Tier II semi-finals
IRWIN, St James — Racing United of St Catherine are the first qualifiers for the semi-finals of the Jamaica Football Federation Tier II Play-offs, after beating Seaforth SC 3-1 in their Group A return-round game at the Spanish Town Prison Oval on Saturday.
Racing United, who came from an early goal down for the win, had won the first game in the two-team group and are on six points to secure their place in the semis set for March 11. The other three spots are still up for grabs.
Brown’s Town took over the lead in Group B after beating Gray’s Inn 2-1 at Drax Hall, and lead on goal difference from the losers as both are on five points.
Goshen FC beat Los Perfectos for the second time in the series to take over the lead in Group C while wins for Reggae Youths and Harmony over Tuscany Warriors and Sandy Bay United, respectively, saw both winners take the lead in Group D.
Racing got all three goals in a 12-minute span late in the second half, after falling behind as early as the fourth minute when Renar Edwards gave Seaforth SC the lead.
Gamal Eccleston brought racing level in the 67th minute, Nickyle Edwards gave them the lead in the 73rd minute, and Raheem Edwards added a security goal in the 75th minute.
Goshen FC were comfortable 3-0 winners over Los Perfectos, with goals from Orane Titus in the 24th minute, Glenroy Miller in the 45th, and Jovane Bromfield in the 82nd.
At Irwin High, Reggae Youths won back-to-back games for the first time in the series, blanking Tuscany Warriors 2-0 with first-half goals from Santino Grinnion and Sebastian Robinson, the latter from the penalty spot.
Harmony FC rebounded from their first loss with a 3-0 win over Sandy Bay at Bounty Hall, with Robert Seivwright opening the scoring in the 40th minute, an own goal doubled the advantage in the 60th minute before Kevin Woolery added a third in the 65th minute.
